NUTRITIONAL THERAPIES
Pain, stress, and chronic medical conditions can take a toll on the overall health of a person's body.
Knowing how to support the health and healing of your body is an extremely important part of maintaining good health.
We live in a stressful world. Too much to do, not enough sleep, and unhealthy eating. Conditions such as chronic pain or chronic medical conditions can add even further stress to a person's body. The harmful results of these stresses on your body can affect almost every body system:
Overwhelming fatigue not relieved by sleep;
Depression and anxiety;
Irritability and/or being short-tempered;
Poor memory;
Trouble falling asleep and/or staying asleep;
Slow healing;
Unable to handle normal everyday stresses;
Dull skin and hair;
Unhealthy weight gain or weight loss;
Constipation/diarrhea/poor digestion;
Worsening of chronic medical problems or new problems showing up;
No energy to do anything more than the bare minimum...
LOOK FAMILIAR???????
Traditional medical therapies can only help so much. Lifestyle changes and trying to create a balanced life are also important. (A number of quality reference books are available to get you started!!)
Visiting a nutritionist or naturopathic doctor can be very helpful to assess your current diet.
They will be able to help you create a plan to achieve a healthy weight. In addition, a comprehensive assessment of what you eat will help the nutritionist or naturopathic doctor to better understand your current nutritional status.
A stressed or ill body needs extra nutrients to help heal itself. It is well known that certain conditions (e.g., fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome) are associated with low levels of certain nutrients and that supplementing these nutrients can significantly help reduce symptoms. Although supplements are traditionally in pill form and certainly can be helpful, many people do not absorb these nutrients well from their digestive tracts. For these people (or those wishing a more rapid nutritional supplementation)
Intravenous Nutrient Therapies (such as Myer's Infusions, Vitamin C infusions, and various others) are extremely helpfu
l. Typically, infusion of nutrients allows for a much higher level of the nutrient to reach the body cells than would be achieved through taking pills. Additionally, Chelation Therapy (the removal of heavy (toxic) metals from the body through intravenous medications) is another therapy option to “de-stress” the body.
These infusions are useful in a broad range of conditions, including stress, pre-operative and post-operative conditions/healing, wound healing, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, and in some cancer care.
Your naturopath, nutritionist or doctor will be able to advise you as to which nutritional therapies are likely to be the most helpful.
