Our complete team encompasses dozens of in-house health care professionals, as well as complementary, allied specialists, all of whom fall under one of six categories:

Admin/Support Team

At ICCI, our Administrative and Support Staff will assist clients in scheduling appointment, insurance forms, treatment applications and answering a range of questions. They can help those in pain by making the process easier.

Our administrative and support team consists of individuals trained in assisting those suffering from injuries and chronic pain. They are sensitive to the needs of an individual in pain and can assist with questions pertaining to insurance issues, therapy, rehabilitation, and medical-legal issues pertaining to your file.

Members of the administrative and support team cannot directly answer questions relating to your tests/investigations, diagnoses, medications and prognosis. These specific questions must be relayed to your treating professional(s).

Nurses

Nurses will help monitor clients during procedures, give educational seminars, and assist in the intake process. They are regulated and trained health professionals that are involved in all aspects of pain care.

Nurses play an important role in your treatment and recovery. They are regulated health care providers and are members of the College of Nurses of Ontario. Nurses at the Integrated Circle of Care assist with important treatments such as intravenous Lidocaine infusions or the intravenous micronutrient therapies (Myers’ infusions). They will assist in drawing blood tests, EKGs, breathing tests, and routine physical examinations. Nurses also administer pre-procedure medications, and monitor patient vital signs (blood pressure, oxygen saturation, cardiac monitoring, heart rate) during certain medical treatments.

Additionally, nurses assist in review of intake consultation files (for new clients) as well as give educational seminars on various pain treatment procedures. They are fully engaged team members in the treatment of chronic pain.

Rehab Specialists

Kinesthesiologists who are rehab specialists who are trained to observe and monitor you during rehabilitation visits. They are able to instruct on safe and appropriate posture, stretching, and fitness techniques. They can assist with home assessments and can make recommendations for home medical devices for mobility and safety.

Kinesthesiologists (also known as “Kins” for short) are important providers of assessment, instruction, supervision, and support during all phases of the rehabilitation cycle. Their specialised training in areas of anatomy, physiology, injury mechanisms, performance, and nutrition helps them take a more general approach to caring for you in our team model.

You will interact with our Kins during your rehab sessions, either on site or at the gym. As Certified Personal Training (CPT) specialists, they can help watch over your on-site treatment sessions and even design a one-to-one personalised fitness program during the off-site Rehabilitation Transfer phase of your recovery. They will ensure you use the correct posture and stance during prescribed exercises. As educators, their guidance will ensure correct, long-term skills in rehabilitating your injuries or helping reduce chronic pain.

Kins will be present during the initial post-accident injury assessments. They will assist the client, with the help of our in-house insurance specialists, to complete the necessary applications and documentation required by the medical team, insurance company and/or your legal counsel. They may engage various tests of flexibility, stamina and coordination to assess your injuries. This vital documentation (which is unique to ICCI's Integrated Rehabilitation Centres) will help prepare your file for external review for treatment plan approval.

Kins help in the review and assessment of home mobility and safety needs (through their Home and Ergonomic Assessments). Through our AbilityCARE™ assessment program, Kins will help make recommendations on home medical aids that can: reduce falls risks, improve safety, increase mobility, and ensure you are taking full advantage of your living space to keep active. They will deliver their recommendations directly to your physician and/or insurance provider to obtain the correct device/aid.

Medical Specialists

Physicians (Medical Doctors/Specialists) provide traditional medical care (investigations, procedures, medications) to those suffering from pain or injuries. They are trained to diagnose and treat a very wide range of medical conditions. Pain physicians are skilled to provide alleviation of pain and assist the team in providing long-term planning for your conditions in partnership with you and your own family physician.

Chronic pain and Fibromyalgia may involve our physician team when medical investigation and/or medication is required. Our team can assist your current physician or independently manage the entire range of care. Currently, Dr. Ketan Patel is among the team of pain management physicians supervising the chronic pain program team. Pain physicians can propose a medication treatment plan to reduce pain. Medications are chosen based on medical evidence of effectiveness, experience of use in certain conditions, safety (especially if there is an addiction concern), and other drug-drug interactions. If you are not interested in a pharmaceutical approach, a number of natural/supplement choices can be substituted based on your health conditions, sensitivities, and available evidence.

Also, a number of in-house medical procedures are offered by a pain physician. These include procedures such as:

Hyaluronic Acid Injections (Neovisc)
Botox (Botulinum Type A) Injections

*Physician services are covered under OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) or other Canadian provincial insurance programs, including IFH (Canada’s Interim Federal Health plan for refugees). Out-of-Country clients must call/write to inquire about fee schedules for assessment and/or interventional procedures. Some restrictions may apply due to malpractice limitations in Ontario.

Dieticians

Dieticians are nutrition experts who can help create custom meal plans and advise you on a number of topics: weight management, vitamin and nutritional products, diabetes and heart-healthy diets, etc.

Dieticians are regulated health professionals in Ontario. They are nutrition experts who can advise on a range of topics such as weight loss/gain programs, pain and fibromyalgia diets, nutritional products and supplements, as well as optimal meal plan preparations. Diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, lactose intolerance, celiac disease, and high cholesterol can be managed through a dietary approach. Custom diet and menu planning can help reduce the reliance on medications and reinforce good habits for the long-term.

This service is not covered under provincial health insurance. A number of private health benefits plan cover professional fees of a dietician.

Chiropractors

Chiropractic therapy is a drugless application of care using hands on and other natural modalities to treat nerve, muscle and joint restrictions, and dysfunctions. The areas of treatment include the whole spine and all other joints of the body helping to reduce pain and relieve stiffness. The overall effect of regular chiropractic treatments is a return to a normal state of health, decreased pain and maintained biomechanics and nerve function of the whole body. Chiropractic therapy is used for all types of injury involving the joints and spine such as sports strains and sprains, motor vehicle accidents, workplace-related accidents, and discomforts related to activities of daily living. Chiropractic treatments can also be used to maintain overall health on a regular basis to prevent biomechanical problems from developing due to our busy lifestyles.

Wellness Specialists

Acupuncture, Naturopathic and Homeopthic medicine specialists help to offer you more options in the treatment of pain, injuries, and general health challenges/conditions. They can design treatment plans that reduce the reliance on medications and promote self-healing.

Naturopathic Medicine and Homeopathic Medicine specialists currently provide care on an invitational basis. Whether it is for individual assessments or giving group educational seminars, these wellness specialists will help to deliver complementary and alternatives approaches to traditional medical care (medication doses can be reduced or used less frequently) .

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years for virtually all conditions. It is currently being provided in our rehabilitation program by a certified Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) specialist.
